Your Specific Responsibilities:

Through SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) activities. Incumbents collects and analyze data to identify individual and/or community needs prior to planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating programs and/or services designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies and environments. Incumbents may also serve as a resource to assist individuals, other professionals and/or the community. This position requires the ability to  work independently and to work both with youth and adults. Public speaking, coalition building and program development skills experience is preferred. This position requires travel and some weekend and evening hours. 

This is a grant funded position and will be reviewed for continuation of employment  annually.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

  • Work with local schools and with school-based tobacco prevention advisors to plan and implement anti-tobacco activities.
  • Recruit youth for participation in SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) Program.
  • Must hold a minimum of one meeting each month at times and locations convenient to the youth, unless school schedule interferes, during the regular school term and continue meeting with youth throughout the summer.
  • Chaperone SWAT events and meetings per approved required activities for current fiscal year.
  • Transport youth to statewide and regional events.
  • Participate in required SWAT trainings including regional tobacco prevention conference calls.
  • Submit required supporting SWAT documents on the 5th day of each month. Required supporting documents for each meeting include: agenda, minutes, and sign in sheets.
  • Additional supporting SWAT documents are required for individual SWAT activities.
  • Attend quarterly Tobacco-Free Partnership of Madison County meetings and coordinate youth representation (25%) at the meeting from their SWAT groups.
  • Serve as a mentor for the SWAT chapter and assist by demonstration and teaching responsible youth empowerment as appropriate to the program.
  • Communicate with professionalism, courtesy, respect and understanding when dealing with youth, the pubic, and partnership members.
  • Collect and analyze data to ensure program outcomes per grant guidelines.
  • Coordinate and attend education meetings with decision makers in the community.
  • Promote the Florida Quit Your Way campaign and refers community members to tobacco cessation services offered at the local level.
  • Promote youth empowerment by increasing skills, knowledge of tobacco issues and prevention, and advocacy training.
  • Refrain from the consumption of alcoholic beverages while chaperoning youth or in the presence of youth.
  • Must remain free from inhaled nicotine and tobacco products use. Collaborate with tobacco prevention staff from other counties for the purpose of planning regional SWAT events.
