Job description

Miller CAT is the leading manufacturer of catalytic converter protection devices. We are looking for a New Product Design Engineer to help us rapidly expand our product line to protect more vehicles from catalytic converter theft and build our line of off-roading products. The work is exciting and highly rewarding. We are building an entirely new product line in the automotive industry and partnering with manufacturers like Toyota to build shields for their vehicles. We use the latest technology and top of the line machines to build our shields. An ideal candidate will be passionate about automobiles, building new products, and bringing ideas to life. Training is available for candidates who might not have all the required experience.


Responsibilities:

  • Help design new products such as skid plates and catalytic converter protective shields
  • Use a 3D scanner and Solidworks to draw prototypes of new products
  • Work with the Project Manager to catalog all parts required for new products
  • Assist in making installation guides
  • Creating BOMs
  • Read and create blueprints
  • Consult on which metals (material and gauge) to use
  • Redesign or edit existing products for improvements
  • Maintain organized database of files
  • Assist with developing and modifying CNC programs as needed

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years related experience, ideally in the automotive or sheet metal industry
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in engineering or closely related field
  • Passion and knowledge of automobiles is a must, including understanding of terminology and mechanics
  • Strong understanding of CAD and Solidworks, with a portfolio of designs to showcase your capabilities
  • Experience with new product development
  • Ability to quickly learn new software and programs
  • Creative, resourceful with strong problem solving skills
  • Understands heat and aerodynamic principles
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Passion to build new things

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with 3D scanners is a plus
  • Previous experience programming CNC machines
  • Familiarily with Amada machines
  • Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing
