Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of an Administrator I, the Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist) independently performs the more difficult accounting duties including maintaining the department's accounting records for assigned funds and/or accounts and preparing complex and technical financial reports for these funds.

Separation of Duties: The duties of this position include responsibilities covered by the State Administrative Manual (SAM) Section 7280.  To ensure proper separation of duties, you may not be eligible for this position if a family member (domestic partners, children, husband, wife, brother, sister, or individuals living in the same household) works in the Accounting Section.

Working Conditions

• This position is eligible for remote-working within California based on departmental guidelines and operational need. FTB has a minimum in-office requirement of two days per week for all positions including those that are eligible for telework.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Experience reconciling complex governmental funds and preparing financial statements
• Knowledge of Uniform Accounting Principles, procedures, and financial record keeping
• Ability to apply General Accounting Principles California State Fund Accounting knowledge
• Knowledge of the Financial Information System for California (Fl$Cal) and Monarch software experience
• Automated accounting systems and PC software experience
• Ability to use Microsoft Office tools to develop and maintain documents, spreadsheets and databases
• Ability to manage multiple or competing priorities in order to complete tasks within established time frames
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff and management
