Position Highlights

The Department of Mathematics seeks candidates for the position of Global Advisor. Ideal candidates will possess exceptional cross-cultural communication competence, strong technology and organizational skills, and a commitment to supporting diverse students in achieving their academic goals.

The Global Advisor will be a critical member of the Math Center team, providing service and support to students at our international campuses and supporting the administration of our international programs. The Global Advisor will also be a member of a vibrant and diverse group of over 40 Math Department staff members.

Our Global Advisor will serve as a frontline contact for undergraduate students in our international programs. In addition, the Global Advisor will play a critical role in the administration of our international programs. This will include serving as a liaison across campuses between administration and faculty, aiding with the hiring and onboarding of international campus faculty, and promoting and facilitating potential student exchanges between campuses.

The Global Advisor will also assist with academic advising of main campus and online campus undergraduate majors and minors in Mathematics and Statistics & Data Science. They will help with Math Center initiatives and events designed to recruit and support students into our majors.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Advise students at our partner university/universities
  • Send monthly newsletter
  • Monitor student progress
    • Ensure students are matriculated and enrolled in courses as appropriate
    • Ensure courses are approved and scheduled as appropriate
    • Enter thematic minors and oversee advisement report accuracy, including making exceptions
  • Advise students who are not doing well in courses
    • Find solutions for retaking courses if needed
  • Hold appointments and drop-in hours for advising (potential for adjusted schedule and Zoom options due to time difference)
  • Promote and facilitate potential semester exchanges between campuses
    • Work with AZ International and Study Abroad
  • Advise students on graduate school and careers
    • Organize talks by international campus alumni and UA faculty for global campus students
    • Provide information about our graduate programs for interested students abroad
  • Oversee recordkeeping for AZ International students

2. Serve as a liaison across campuses between administration and faculty

  • Work with international campus partner university staff to facilitate administration of our degree program
  • Work with newly hired global faculty members to assist with onboarding processes for the international campus
  • May involve occasional travel to partner campus(es), as needed
  • Help coordinate hiring processes for global faculty positions

Advise students on Main/Online campuses

  • Respond to emails and hold availability for advising meetings
  • Evaluate transfer gen eds.
  • Evaluate students for RPCs at end of semesters

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive skills with word processing and spreadsheet software programs.
  • Highly skilled communicator with strong cross-cultural competency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's
    Degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience advising in higher education setting
  • Experience working with undergraduate students
  • Experience with student management systems like PeopleSoft/UAccess
