The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is home to several initiatives that support student success in the College of Letters & Science ( including the CAE cohort program; Summer Collegiate Experience (SCE); and the L&S STEM Scholars Initiative. These programs work together to offer an enriching, inclusive community for L&S students who are from low income and/or rural backgrounds or who are the first in their family to attend college. CAE provides a variety of engagement opportunities to students, including summer residential experiences, holistic academic advising, academic coaching, paid research opportunities, health and wellness events, social events, graduate school and career preparation, and connection with L&S learning communities that facilitate connection and collaboration. The CAE Academic Advisor serves as primary advisor to a caseload of CAE students and will provide holistic, high-touch advising as part of a committed team of student service professionals who demonstrate care, patience, and authenticity in their engagement with students. They empower students to set and meet high expectations and they are expected to exhibit the CAE values of community, student-centeredness, social justice and advocacy in their work. CAE Advisors also contribute to the overall development of students by creating and organizing programming that spans the entire academic year. They work in partnerships with a variety of offices across campus that support the academic, co-curricular, and financial well-being of students. They also work in collaboration with L&S Academic Advising Services to provide advising to students in the College of Letters & Science (L&S) at new student orientation (SOAR).
