Job Description and Duties

Under general direction of a Supervising Property Appraiser, the Associate Property Appraiser in the Assessment Practices Survey Division serves as a member of a survey team that reviews the assessment practices and procedures of County Assessors’ offices for compliance with property tax laws and rules. The incumbent focuses on issues involving the taxation of real property. The incumbent also conducts real property review appraisals as part of an assessment sampling program.

Working Conditions

  • Partial telework may be available.
  • Standard office environment.
  • Requires being in a stationary position, consistent with office work, for extended periods of time.
  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
  • Must be able to move/transport items weighing up to forty (40) pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Field work to appraise properties will require on-site visits of properties located on various terrain.
  • Appraisal work may require traveling to field sites and inspection of the interior/exterior of properties.

Special Requirements

  • Travel required fifty percent (50%) of the time.
  • Position requires employee to have and maintain a valid: California Driver’s License.
  • Maintain a State Board of Equalization (BOE) appraiser certification including continuing education.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or equivalent programs.
  • Travel may be required throughout the state up to fifty percent (50%) of the time by automobile and airplane; travel will typically be Monday through Friday and span several contiguous weeks.
  • Ability to learn and apply property tax laws and rules.
