The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Financial Analyst to join our Houston-based Finance team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in supporting key business decisions through detailed financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, and performance analysis. This is a vital position that offers significant exposure to the operational and strategic aspects of the Upstream Oil & Gas industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive financial models for capital projects, asset acquisitions, and divestitures, including Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis, Net Present Value ( NPV ), Internal Rate of Return ( IRR ), and payback periods.
    • Lead the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes for assigned business units or assets.
    • Prepare detailed variance analysis (Actual vs. Budget/Forecast) and communicate key insights to management.
  • Performance Reporting:
    • Create monthly and quarterly financial performance packages for executive review, including operational metrics and financial trends.
    • Analyze capital expenditures ( CAPEX ) and operating expenditures ( OPEX ) to identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
  • Strategic Support:
    • Assist in the preparation of presentations for the Board of Directors and Investor Relations.
    • Support cross-functional teams (e.g., Engineering, Operations, Land) with ad-hoc analysis and decision support.
    • Monitor industry trends, peer performance, and commodity price movements to inform internal financial projections.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience: 2–10 years of progressive experience in financial analysis experience within the Oil & Gas industry (Upstream E&P highly desirable).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced modeling, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
    • Strong working knowledge of financial statement analysis and corporate finance principles.
    • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and FP&A software (e.g., Hyperion, Anaplan) is a plus.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly articulate complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
