The Indiana State Park Inns are one of the oldest state parks lodging systems in the country. We proudly operate seven unique and beautiful facilities throughout our great state of Indiana that offer a unique experience for guests to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature and make memories naturally!

 

Role Overview

The Retail Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the retail gift shop operations for the Indiana State Park Inns.


Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

Job Duties:

  • Monitor and analyze sales records, trends, or economic conditions to anticipate consumer buying patterns, sales, and needed inventory.
  • Establishes and sets expectations on core focus/best practices for product selection.
  • Ensures adherence to brand awareness and Inn policies.
  • Production selection and purchasing
    • Works with each location on both gift shop and camp store operations for best products for the mission focused outcomes.
    • Review and guide store sets, inventories, and total retail operations at each location.
  • Monitors KPI’s and identify areas of opportunities.
    • Revenue Growth
    • Profit Margin
    • Customer Satisfaction
  • Works as necessary during special retail opportunities.
  • Partner with product development and buying teams to estimate product demand
  • Monitors online store daily operations and Indiana State Fair retail store and ensures accurate inventory management.
  • Reviews daily business for accuracy and efficiency
  • Responsible for all online store reporting and end of month reconciliation reports and analysis.
    • Serves as liaison with other departments/parties as necessary.
  • Communicates with customers (internal and external)
    • Emails/Direct Messages thru store portal/phone Calls
  • Updates and develops all operational procedures and manuals as necessary.

 

Partner with the Business Development Manager on the following:

 

  • Supervises online store fulfillment team
    • Works to ensure that procedures are adhered to for overall efficiency.
    • Trains team as necessary/needed.
    • Oversee holiday gift pack sales
  • Creates and oversees Online store as well as some customer service and holiday gift pack sales
  • Attends special marketing events throughout the year and works on booth design and implementation of overall appearance.
  • Produces ideas and collateral for promotional efforts and brand awareness for the Inns/Lodges.
  • Brainstorm fresh advertising ideas with senior leadership
  • Responsible for time-sensitive responses to upper management, department employees, or business partners
  • Conduct meeting with department employees and upper management as needed

 

Job Requirements:

A degree in marketing, business, advertising, or another related field is preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a retail leadership position. Experience with techniques and sales methods used in order to present a product or service to customers in a persuasive manner and to meet their expectations and needs. Familiarity with collect and analyze sales levels of products and services in order to use this information for determining the quantities to be produced in the following batches, customer feedback, price trends, and the efficiency of sales methods. Knowledge of the techniques, theories, and commonly accepted strategies regarding pricing of goods. The relation between pricing strategies and outcomes in the market such as profitability maximization, deterrence of newcomers, or increase of market share.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • At the Indiana State Park Inns, success is based around teamwork, quality, integrity, loyalty, passion, friendliness, and safety. Indiana State Park Inns workers provide friendly customer service while ensuring the general upkeep of the Inns to provide guest with a high-quality experience. Exempt positions serve in the following areas:
  • Central Office – Located in downtown Indianapolis, central office positions aid in centralized leadership, human resources, finance, payroll, and administrative functions.
    • Positions may include: Assistant Business Development Managers, Training Managers, Accounting Supervisors, Special Projects Managers, Business Development Managers, Human Resources Manager, information technology Mangers, Regional Managers, Deputy Directors 
  • Principal – These positions work at Inns properties to support day-to-day operations, ensuring superior guest satisfaction while maximizing hotel profitability. 
    • Positions may include: HR/Account Coordinators, Department Managers, Department Supervisors, Department Superintendents, Department Assistant Directors, Department Directors, Sales Directors, Assistant General Managers, General Managers

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

  • This role should expect to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays. 
  • Individuals may be required to wear an Indiana State Park Inns-provided uniform. 
  • Ability to hold effective communication with coworkers and guests and assist them as needed.
  • Ability to supervise employees.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
