Position Overview
As a Pension Benefits Administrator, you will oversee the day-to-day management of pension benefits, ensuring seamless and accurate administration. Reporting to the Pension Fund Manager, you will be responsible for processes such as benefit calculations, participant record maintenance, and payroll operations. Key Responsibilities
To excel in this role, you'll:
- Administer the monthly retirement payroll process, including determining participant eligibility, maintaining participant records, and processing state/federal taxes and ACH payments.
- Manage all aspects of retirement applications, from reviewing submissions to calculating final benefits.
- Monitor and communicate with terminated vested participants approaching retirement age, assisting them through the application process.
- Review Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDRO) and coordinate with legal counsel to ensure compliance.
- Investigate uncashed, lost, or returned retiree checks and oversee stop payments and reissues.
- Update records for deceased retirees, spouses, and beneficiaries, including correspondence with families and managing overpayment recovery.
- Assist with year-end reporting for the Plan Actuary and create participant training materials.
- Provide one-on-one consultations to participants about their benefits and vesting options.
- Collaborate with Welfare Fund, Accounting, and Union teams to deliver outstanding service.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support ad hoc projects as assigned by the Pension Department Manager.
- Respond to participant inquiries via phone and email.
What You Bring
- Education & Experience:
- Associate degree or equivalent experience.
- Background in banking or finance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with multiemployer pension plans or benefit administration software (e.g., Bridgeway Benefit Technologies LLC) is a plus.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of working independently and collaboratively.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with excellent verbal and written communication.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt to changing regulations.
- High ethical standards and exceptional interpersonal skills for handling confidential information.
- Proven track record in delivering top-notch customer service.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Ability to work on-site or remotely, with a typical schedule of Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST.
- Requires extended periods of sitting, operating office equipment, and occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds.
