Project Overview:

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s mechanical aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met. 

Part-Time Telework : This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.

Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project.

"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”

Major Responsibilities:

• Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications​ 
• Participates in the design, development and modification of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​ 
• Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines​ 
• Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups​ 
• Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals 
• Provides technical assistance to other project personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards​ 
• Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution 
• Support of HLW mock-up facility game architecture for the creation of facility simulation for training and operations development

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
• Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)
• Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
• Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team
• Knowledge and ability to utilize Microsoft office suite of products.
• Familiar with creating regulatory compliant designs and knowledgeable with regulatory compliance.
• Manage discipline work process execution and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract and industry codes and standards.
• Must have experience teaching within a technical environment or technical courses
• Planning and organizational skills.
• Experience with software development with Unity Game Engine or Game Development.
• Experience providing engineering support to procurement, construction, and startup.
• Leadership Experience
• Capable of incorporating equipment modifications at all levels from documentation to
• Experience in design of DOE or commercial nuclear facilities, naval nuclear programs,  preferred experience in WTP.
