Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
The Sports Ministry Coordinator is responsible for overseeing, organizing, and managing all aspects of the church's sports ministry programs. This includes developing and implementing sports-related activities that foster spiritual growth, community engagement, and outreach. The role requires strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills to serve and minister to people of all ages through sports, while aligning with the church's mission and values.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Program Development and Coordination:
    • Plan, organize, and implement sports programs and events for various age groups (youth, adults, seniors) including leagues, tournaments, group meet-ups, and community outreach initiatives.
    • Design sports activities that promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and spiritual growth.
    • Oversee all assigned regional sports leagues and events as well participate regularly to help communicate and ensure the mission and goals of Red Rocks Sports.
    • Work with church leadership to align sports ministry activities with the broader mission of the church.
    • Ensure that all programs are safe, inclusive, and welcoming for participants of all skill levels.
  2. Volunteer and Staff Management:
    • Recruit, train, and manage part-time staff and volunteers for various sports programs.
    • Provide ongoing support and encouragement to part-time staff and volunteers, ensuring they are equipped to lead effectively.
    • Oversee scheduling and coordination of part-time staff and volunteers for different events and activities.
    • Foster a spirit of teamwork and collaboration among ministry leaders, part-time staff, volunteers, and participants.
  3. Community Engagement and Outreach:
    • Build relationships with local businesses, schools, community organizations, and other churches to promote the sports ministry and create opportunities for outreach.
    • Use sports as a tool to share the message of Christ and engage people who may not otherwise attend traditional church services.
    • Organize outreach events and programs to attract non-believers and help them connect with the church community.
  4. Budget and Resource Management:
    • Develop and manage individual sports and campus sports budgets, ensuring that funds are allocated efficiently and effectively.
    • Oversee the purchase and maintenance of sports equipment and other supplies.
    • Track expenses and provide regular reports on the financial health of the sports ministry.
  5. Communication and Promotion:
    • Promote sports ministry events and activities through church newsletters, social media, email newsletters, and the church website.
    • Create and maintain relationships with marketing sources outside the church.
    • Communicate regularly with participants, part-time staff, volunteers, and church members about upcoming events, schedules, and program updates.
    • Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Sports Ministry Director regarding ministry goals, challenges, and progress.
  6. Spiritual Development:
    • Incorporate Biblical principles and Christian lifestyle into sports activities and events.
    • Lead sports centered groups, devotionals, prayer times, or Bible studies as part of the sports ministry.
    • Encourage participants to grow in their faith and live out Christian values through sports.
  7. Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure that all sports programs comply with relevant safety regulations and standards.
    • Maintain first-aid certification and be prepared to respond to medical emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Ministry, or a related field preferred.
    • Previous experience in sports ministry, coaching, or sports program coordination.
    • Strong understanding of sports, recreation, and the role they can play in community and spiritual development.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
    • Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire a diverse group of part-time staff, volunteers, and participants.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
    • Comfortable using social media and other digital tools to promote programs.
    • Ability to manage budgets and track expenses.
    • Demonstrated commitment to Christian faith and an understanding of how sports can be a tool for ministry.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Full-time, salaried position.
  • Evening and weekend hours required for events and leagues.
  • Will require some travel for off-site events or programs.
