Responsibilities

Administer and maintain database systems, including MySQL and other relational databases.

Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to maintain data integrity.

Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and system tuning.

Write complex SQL queries for data retrieval and manipulation.

Use PL/SQL and Shell Scripting to automate routine tasks.

Monitor database health and performance metrics, proactively identifying potential issues.

Work closely with development teams to design efficient database schemas aligned with application needs.

Implement security measures to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access.

Conduct regular database audits to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Support data migration projects using tools such as SSIS.

Qualifications

Proven experience in database administration, particularly with MySQL or similar databases.

Strong proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and scripting languages like Shell Scripting.

Experience with data integration tools such as SSIS is a plus.

Analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues effectively.

Knowledge of best practices in database design, security, and maintenance.

Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Ability to work independently and adapt to a fast-paced setting.

A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred but not required.

Job Details

Job Type: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Schedule: Monday to Friday (No nights or weekends)

Location: Hybrid remote in Lansing, MI 48915

Experience:

MySQL: 1 year (Preferred)

Database administration: 1 year (Preferred)

Relocation: Candidates must be willing to relocate before starting if not currently based in Lansing, MI.
